After our restful couple of days at the campsite in the green and lush surroundings at Villanane we set off today for the coast.
It was a spectacular drive, we left all the flat barren scrubland we encountered the other day behind us and after setting off we were soon decending from the high ground Villanane occupied.
Some early morning cloud in the valley |
This was interesting, it's like an inverted quarry. The hillside has been terraced to extract the stone. I wonder if eventually the hillside will disappear altogether ? |
Actually, I hadn't appreciate quite how high up we were on Villanane, there were lots of switchbacks to entertain Sue on the way down 😂
After a stretch of motorway and a stretch of accidental toll road and we arrived at Laredo.
It sits in a beautiful sandy bay between Bilbao and Santander in the Asturias and Cantabria region.
It's quite tight parking in Laredo, but hey, it's free, it's 20 yards from the beach and 200 yards from the town.
So a winner in my view.
I had a dip in the sea this afternoon which was really refreshing and I love the feeling of sand between my toes and the sand here is lovely and soft.
It's another warm and sunny day, much like home apparently, but there's a threat of thunder storms later I think.
