Porth Neigwl, Hell's Mouth

Saturday 11th May 2024

I stuck my head outside last night to look for the Aurora Borealis, couldn't see anything and went back in.

Seems like I was a little hasty and didn't let my eyes adjust to the darkness.
So I was fast asleep when everyone was snapping these amazing pictures.

Ah, we get another opportunity tonight so I'll try again.

I've moved on today to Porth Neigwl or Hell's Mouth and it's commonly known.

It's another of Llyn's beautiful beaches but being closer to Abersoch there's much more of a Wilmslow by the sea feel to it, evidenced by all the Range Roves clogging up the lanes.

It's also very popular with the SUP crowd, there are dozens here, plus a few kayaks, surfers and swimmers.

I didn't bother getting my kayak out, instead we had a beach walk, which Louis didn't enjoy due to the large pebbles, and so we did another stretch of the coastal path which was much more to his liking.

There's a little village not far away so I'll have a wander up there after tea.

The weather has been scorchio today, the warmest day of the week, probably the year, by some margin.

I liked the tiny window in this deralict cottage,
I wonder what it's purpose was ?

A chimney on a hillside ?

Sea kayaking at Porthor

Friday 10th May 2024

I've not much to report today as I've not moved from Porthor.

We had a great day messing around on the waves in the kayak though.

As usual Louis fell asleep about five minutes after setting off, only waking when a seagull decided to land on the bow and squark wildly.

He woke with a start and I thought he was going to jump out and give chase.

Thankfully he thought better of it and just barked a bit until it disappeared in the distance.

So here's some pictures of our day . . . . . . .

Not moved an inch !

Nice sunset and I'm hoping for a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis later

Porthor, Whistling Sands

Thursday 9th May 2024

I moved on this morning just a few miles down to Porthor, or Whistling Sands as it's commonly known.

I think the wind is supposed to create a whistling sound as it blows across the beach.

I've never heard it so I can't vouch for that.

It's a really beautiful beach with soft golden sand in a cresent shaped bay.

I was going to get the kayak out but this morning was a little cool in the overcast skies and by the time the sun came out at lunchtime a wind had got up making the sea rather choppy.

So I elected for just walking the Llyn coastal path today and I'm hoping to get the kayak out tomorrow.

This rocky headland is called Dinas Bach

Louis likes it here !

Llyn coastal path bench, I could sit here all day !

This place has some amazing skies and cloud formations

This was May last year

And this is today

I've got my cloud book with me that Lauren kindly bought me for my birthday, and it tells me it's called Stratocumulus Stratiformis.

The patches of blue sky visible between the Stratocumulus cloudlets show where pockets of cold air are begining to sink.

The book is a bit technical and I can only read a few pages at a time before my eyes glaze over and my mind wanders off somewhere else, lol, but it is interesting to find how the formations are created.
