Montreuil sur Mer

Our last day of this trip and we drove from Mailleraye sur Seine to Montreuil sur Mer.

But we started the day with cool temperatures and a mist on the Seine at dawn

But onto Montreuil sur Mer,  it's an attractive little town with fortified walls and Ramparts built between the 13th and 17th century.

A Citadel was built in the 16th century to further reinforce defenses.

The towns cobbled streets were used to film a 1925 silent version of Les Misérables.

This is the street I think

The medieval streets contain four little alleys called Venelles.

These shortcuts have been appreciated by the locals for centuries, but are extremely narrow, so it's a squeeze to pass someone coming the other way.

One of the Venelles

There are lots of bars and restaurants in town seemingly doing a good trade.

Some views of Montreuil sur Mer town, ramparts and Citadel . . . . .

This is the first Union Jack I've seen flying in weeks

The inscription tells us that British Forces liberated the town in WWll and it seems the locals like to show their appreciation

La Mailleraye sur Seine

Our main objective for today was to get Louis his worming treatment and pet passport stamped at the vets to enable him to return home with us.

This was done without any problems and tablet was helped down with a piece of roast chicken.

The vets charged 22.30 euro which I thought was very reasonable.
Closer to Calais it can be 40 euro.

We then moved on to La Mailleraye sur Seine which is one of my favourite motorhome aires on the banks of the Seine.

We've been here before but I can't remember when.

It's a great place in a nice small village with great views of the river cruisers and cargo barges passing by.

I think there'll be a street market tomorrow so we'll probably go and have a look there.

I went for a cycle ride along the river this afternoon in the warm sunshine and really enjoyed seeing the local countryside.

It's our last day tomorrow, we'll leave here and head closer to Calais for our last night.

I'm not sure where yet, as I don't want to be too close to Calais despite a lot of reports saying there are few problems.

I'm not convinced, so I'll find somewhere a safe distance away even though it'll mean an earlier start on Sunday.
