First stop today was Croome, a National Trust estate with an unusual history and an important role in WWll.
Nearby RAF Defford trained pilots for the RAF and Croome and the airfield were the most top secret sites for the war effort. They also did top secret work on radar and communication.
There is a museum detailing the role played by the RAF base and the estate where the staff were housed.
The airfield is still there but not visible from the estate.
The house is a bit disappointing inside, there is very little furniture. It seems it was all sent to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. But as Croome is restored there are plans to return the furniture to it's rightful place here.
