To the Vet in Letterkenny

Friday 10th September 2021

Our beach parkup at Tullagh Point proved to be a fantastic place to spend the night and if the weather had been a bit kinder it would have been perfect. But as it was, low cloud hung around obscuring the surrounding hills and giving a rather dull feel with just the odd glimpse of the sun.

We set off and went to a nearby waterfall, Glenevin falls.
An American lady bought the land in the 1990's without knowing of their existence. After moving into the house someone mentioned there were thought to be some falls up the valley but we're completely overgrown and inaccessible.
This set her on a mission, so she set off up the stream in waders to find them, and she was amazed at what she discovered.
She pledged to make them accessible to the community and visitors and to be free of charge.
The falls are about 3/4 mile up the valley from the carpark and bizarrely a sign said no dogs are allowed. Apparently this is due to sheep roaming free, but as there was nobody else about and Louis was on his lead, I disregarded the sign. I suspect most Irish do the same.
Anyway it was a beautiful walk with lots to see and of course the falls at the top were well worth the effort.

Next it was onto Fort Dunree. It was a fort standing on a rocky outcrop with a lighthouse. We decided not to go in the fort as there didn't seem to be much there to justify 5 euro !
Whilst we were there a gathering of old Austin motor cars chugged their way around the headland, and once there occupants immediately made a bee line for the cafe. They drew quite a line of admirers.

Unfortunately the carpark was on a really steep slope and we didn't fancy having lunch on such a slope with the prospect of it sliding off the table.

So next stop was futher down the Wild Atlantic Way at Inch island which has a nature reserve for migrating birds.
Much flatter here.

After lunch it was into Letterkenny for a supermarket shop, a visit to the vets for Louis EU pet passport then onto a nearby motorhome dealer that allow overnight parking on their premises.
So that's where we are tonight, not scenic, but free parking and free services including electric hook up, winner.

I'm having some technology problems with the mobile phone, yesterday I put it down to no signal, but we're in a large town tonight and still phones don't work.
Once going in euroland meant the phone would connect automatically, welcome message etc. no longer it seems, I don't know if it's a Brexit thing but that's handy to blame so Brexit it is to blame.
