Our last night at Cloughglass Beach was spent alone, no other camper vans or motorhomes joined us at this beautiful beach so we enjoyed it all on our own.
After a morning walk we set off on the now familiar WAW.
Our first stop was Portnoo, yet another fantastic bay and golden sandy beach.
I'd identified this as an overnight parkup, but this was just a coffee break and a quick walk.
Next it was onto Assaranca Waterfall. No walk needed for this one it was right next to the road and quite spectacular.
Apparently the pool is a popular swimming spot, but the peat brown water doesn't appeal to me much.
The traditional Irish folk village of Glencolumbkille was nearby so we made a visit there.
It's an old settlement dating from the early 1700's and consists of a number of traditional cottages that made up the village and recreated how they lived in those times.
It was interesting to see how they lived and worked.
The local Irish population suffered religious persecution, the Gaelic language was forbidden, as was catholicism, so mass was taken in hiding.
Our next destination was Malin Beg, another place I'd identified as a possible overnight parkup.
It's a rocky headland with 166 steps down to a sandy beach.
It was extremely windy though so we didn't stay long.
The last stop of the day was at a hostel that provide motorhome pitches and has great views along the valley.
It's nearby to the cliff at Slieve League which look pretty spectacular, so we're heading there tomorrow.
Depending on the weather, we may get a boat trip to see them.
(all photos are in wrong order for some reason, so the last photo appears first, technology eh ? )
Malin Beg - looks calm but was actually blowing a gale at the top |
