Another step north today brought us to Saint Cyr Lac just north of Poitiers.
It's only a tiny village but has a great recreational lake with loads of facilities for the sporty types.
Tennis, volleyball, football pitches, table tennis, paddle boarding, fishing, yoga school, kayaking, loads of children's playgrounds, outside gyms, nature reserve plus a sailing club and no doubt lots of other activities which are not so obvious unless they're actually happening.
The French really do know how to provide recreational activities.
The peak of my physical activity today consisted of a cycle ride around the lake, then onto a nearby village called Dissay.
This village is dominated by a large chateau at its heart which is now a hotel and spa.
But it's an interesting building and the village is quite attractive and I enjoyed cycling along the French country lanes in the warm late summer sunshine.
All I needed was a beret and a string of onions around my neck and I'd be mistaken for a local, lol.
We're on another CCP tonight, right next to the lake, with electric hook up, so the air cons chugging away and the shield bugs are being kept at bay.
There's fewer of them here, but definitely still around and still trying to find their way in Ed through the fly screens !
Good news on Louis paw, he'd hardly walk anywhere yesterday evening or this morning, but we had a decent walk this afternoon and he's no longer limping or in discomfort.
I think it must be an insect bite and I'm suspecting a horse fly, but it seems to healing now so fingers crossed he's over the worst of it.
We're here, by the green flag, zoomed out |
And zoomed in |
Lac Saint Cyr |
Dissay village well, I thought it rather sweet |
Chateau Dissay has lost one of it's spires |
Chateau Dissay |
No water in the moat |
Chateau Dissay, the red brick chimneys look rather odd ? 19th centuary additions I'd guess, but they spoil the appearance. All in the name of keeping warm. |
Chateau Dissay - A lovely avenue of trees cooling things down |
Tomorrow we head towards La Loire where we toured in 2017.
Many of the places are familiar but annoyingly I don't have access to my photos from then as I wasn't doing this blog then.
They're all on a hard drive at home.
We'll possibly revisit some places and find some new to us ones.
One thing about France, wherever you go, there's something of interest to see and Pays du Loire has a lot to offer.
