We had quite heavy rain overnight as predicted by the weather apps but by the time we got up it had mostly cleared up.
So we packed away and left Lauren and Chloe to enjoy their last day in Nazare alone.
We headed north east to what was the original capital city of Portugal, Coimbra.
Coimbra, a riverfront city in central Portugal and the country’s former capital, is home to a preserved medieval old town and the historic University of Coimbra. Built on the grounds of a former palace, the university is famed for its baroque library, the Biblioteca Joanina, and its 18th-century bell tower. In the city’s old town lies the 12th-century Romanesque cathedral Sé Velha.
There is free parking on the river bank and a foot bridge to the town on the other bank.
We walked into town, well the flat bits anyway.
I suspect the the old town is very attractive, but being at the top of the hill, Sue wasn't going to get there.
It's a busy place with a large student population and the streets were busy.
This intreagued me, what sport could this be for . . .
A marked up pitch in the river with a raised net at each end ?
Later we set off for tonight's parkup, unfortunately it was closed off so we opted for plan B, which a free Aire in a little village on the hills called Carapinha.
There's not a lot here but the parking and services are free so it'll do us nicely for the night before we move on tomorrow with another step towards home.
We enjoyed a lovely sunset at dusk with the Portugese hills in the distance.
