Porto

Our drive today took us through the famous city of Porto which stands on the river Douro where it meets the Atlantic ocean.

Sue didn't feel up to walking around the city but it seemed a shame to bypass it completely.

So I did some research and found some parking in what looked like a nice area right on the mouth of the Douro where there is a small castle, an old stone pier and it's more modern concrete replacement.

We walked the length of the pier and to a nearby park before lunch in Ed.

Porto, where the Douro meets the Atlantic

I think Porto is probably well worth a couple of days as it comes highly recommended.
Sadly we didn't see any of the pretty bits today, just the modern urban jungle of concrete tower blocks and scruffy commercial districts.

We continued south to tonight's parkup, which is another freebie in a little village on the coast, the nearest town is called Murtosa.

There isn't a great deal here, it's just a beach, a number of fisherman's quays and a small park.

But it's very peaceful once a group of Portuguese wrinklies finished their picnic on a nearby table.

One of them insisted on shouting everything he said which got rather annoying.
I think they've been fishing, the men have anyway, and no doubt some alcohol have been enjoyed, lol.

Anyway Lauren and Chloe are on their way and we'll meet up with them tomorrow and it will be great to see them.

Unfortunately the weather forecast isn't as dry and sunny as I'm sure they're hoping for, but we'll make the most of it and have a good time.
