Auvillar and Auch !

Sunday 3rd September 2023

Today we left the peaceful parkup at Albas, on the banks of the river Lot and made our way further south to Auch, but not before stopping at a BVoF in Auvillar on La Garonne river.

The day started though with a missed turning and 4 kilometers of single track farmers lane with no turning places or passing places if we met anything coming in the opposite direction.

Thankfully we didn't and we're soon back on a proper tarmac black stuff 😀
Close call though !

Auvillar is a small medieval village high above La Garonne on the Pilgrim trail to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia.

Much the same route as we're on.

It's most notable feature is the medieval round market in the centre of the village.

There are gauges and tools in the middle section which were used for measuring local grain and produce for trading with the merchants who came here to buy.

The surrounding buildings are all very picturesque as well.

Door of the day, a bit rustic this one !

This is the village laundry in times gone by

La Garonne

After lunch by La Garonne, it was then onto Auch.

This evening I took a walk around the town as our parkup is close to the centre, it has a very impressive cathedral, not a Notre Dame for a change, this one's called Sainte-Marie.
