Today we drove a short distance, about 12 km to Alcobaca, a small town in the hills behind Nazare.
It's main claim to fame being a large Monastery to Saint Maria, and it is a very impressive building.
It's quite an interesting town but the main reason for coming here was to try and get the air conditioning repaired in Ed. It packed up as we left Porto the other day.
Research suggested the Roady, who are a bit like Halfords could re-gas the system, so we headed here to find out.
After some language barrier issues, one of the guys spoke good English so we got along great.
They said they could take a look at it today but wouldn't be ready to collect until 7pm ish.
Luckily we have Lauren and Chloe nearby with a hire car, so we left it with him and went for a walk around the town and Monastery.
Lauren and Chloe picked us up about 4.30 and we went back to their Airbnb for a cuppa and await the phone call from the garage.
The call came, but unfortunately the diagnostic machine revealed a significant leak in the system so there's no point in putting new gas in as it wouldn't stay there for long.
It would take 2-3 days to diagnose, source the parts and repair which is a non starter for us.
But rather kindly, he refused any payment for the work he'd done. Very fair and quite unexpected.
So we'll just have a slightly sweaty return trip, but I'm sure we'll be fine, after all we managed ok in the days before air conditioning was common.
So with all to that we were a bit late getting back to the campsite so photos of Alcobaca will follow tomorrow.
