Magical Lake Bled

Despite our fears for the weather, the day broke with warm sunshine slightly dappled by some cloud. It had rained a bit in the night but nothing to get us too worried about.

We decided we would get the little tourist train that runs around the lake as there is a stop outside the campsite.
The plan was to get off at the main town of Bled, have a look around the shops and then catch the train back again. We must have been half asleep as we ended up back at the campsite before we knew it ! The ticket only allows one hop off. Anyway I had a word with the driver and he was ok for us to stay on and do another lap.
We got off at the correct stop this time and looked around and had the café latte sat overlooking the beautiful clear waters of Lake Bled.

Lake Bled sits on the very edge of the Julian Alps and the Triglav National Park and is a breathtaking setting.
The lake is not very large, only 2 km by 1380m and about 6km to walk the path around it.

It is a very magical setting, the turquoise waters, the mountain peaks as a backdrop, the castle on the cliff top above and the little church on the island ringing it`s bells, what could be more perfect ?

The only negative, as mentioned yesterday is the scaffold on the church tower and the construction cranes at the castle, but we try and overlook that and get a photo from an angle where they can`t be seen.

After a look around Bled town we decided to walk back around the lake to the campsite and what an enjoyable walk it was.
Much more enjoyable than getting the train.

Last night I had probably the worst shower of this trip in the campsite showers, the water was cold, the fittings old fashioned, press button water thingy 3 seconds at the most, and in semi darkness as there was no lighting, awful. Today I noticed there was a brand new shower block a little further away and WOW, what a difference. New fittings, bright LED automatic lighting, lashings of hot water permanently on and a giant rain drench shower head that cascades gallons of hot water over you. Bloody lovely ! Note to self, not all shower blocks are the same, check them out first.

A great day at Lake Bled and this evening plans are being made for tomorrow…………….
