Our overnight at the Spa with the mountains as a
background was very peaceful indeed. In the end about ten motorhomes were our
neighbours for the night but come morning they all seemed to make a hasty
getaway whilst we were still having breakfast.
All was revealed when a chap with a tin came around
to collect the 11 euro from the three that were left including us ! Clearly
they knew the score and were determined to hold onto their euro.
I was happy to pay this modest amount for a very safe
and peaceful night in a such beautiful location.
I also realised that buses do a loop around the Stellplatz and go into Salzburg,
so it would make a very good base for visiting the city and travelling in on
the bus.
We left Golling an der Salzach and headed for Lake Chiemsee .
In the end we did a complete circuit of the lake, stopping in Prien am
Chiemsee, the main town for a wander around.
This is where the boats leave to go to the island of Herreninsel
with Schloss Herrenchiemsee Palace .
This is one of King Ludwig`s Palaces.
We didn`t do the trip as it would have meant leaving
Louis for quite a while as we`d presumed he wouldn`t be allowed inside.
It must be said we were a little underwhelmed by the
area. Maybe we have just been spoilt by Austria`s spectacular lakes but this one just didn`t have it for us.
It is clearly sailing heaven for those with a boat and all things boaty,
but didn`t do a lot for us. We couldn`t find much in the town either to
interest us, maybe we were in the wrong part of the town, but there didn`t seem
to be much there apart from a ceramics market on the lakeside. Yes, you read
that correctly, a market dedicated to ceramics.
Lot`s of skilled people with their wares. Quite
pricey much of it, but interesting to look at.
We then drove on to our overnight stop, a Stellplatz
at Bernau am Chiemsee (GPS 47.83025 12.38541). Not a lot to be said, it`s safe
and functional if not picturesque, and we are surrounded by German motorhomers. There is an onsite bar and restaurant showing
the Germany v Sweden match at 8.00 so I might go and see if the Germans suffer
another poor result and sit with a grin on my face.
The weather is warmer here than Austria
yesterday but still a bit cloudy, forecast is better from Monday I think.
The fridge saga goes on. I tried it again today and
hey presto, it worked !
So I did fix it after all yesterday, even though I
thought I hadn`t, a muppet moment I think. So it should give us more options of
where to stay if were not so reliant on getting electricity.
