Île-Grande

Friday 20th June 2025

Oh, I spoke too soon, today the cooling breeze has vanished only to be replaced by humidity 😅

I went for a cycle ride this morning from the Aire at Tregastel, but I didn't go as far as planned as rain was in the weather forecast and the sky was looking a bit grey and threatening.

My cycle ride from Tregastel

As it happened it was only a few drops but when the skies had cleared and it was back to blue it was noticeably more humid

Thankfully we weren't travelling far, just around 15 km or twenty minutes.

It would have been 15 minutes but for road works closing the road I'd wanted to use.

So we drove around admiring the rose granite coast to a small island called

Île-Grande.

Île-Grande connected to the mainland by a bridge

The municipal campsite gets good reviews and is right on the beach so that clinched it.

With electric hook up we'll have air conditioning so win win.

I booked us in for two nights so we can get the chairs out and chill for a couple of days, maybe get the kayak out I think.

It's a nice campsite, well laid out and good facilities.

Our set up for a couple of days, 50 yards from the sea, perfect

Communal bathing ?

This is typical of the cottages here, solid built with local pink granite,
I think they'll last forever.
The closed shutters are typical too.
They're probably holiday homes of wealth Parisiens

The coast is a little different here but no less dramatic, the huge rounded boulders are less prominent and are more angular. I expect the geology is slightly different

The sea is beautifully clear and suprisingly warm, I only had a paddle today but I'll get my kayak out tomorrow and maybe go for a swim
