Bayeux & a Normandy oasis

Monday 16th June 2025

We've found a little piece of Normandy heaven here called Manoir De La Foulerie, but more on that later.

First call today was a visit to the town of Bayeux on the Aure River, and famous for it's Tapestry depicting the Norman invasion of England.

It's a compact town with everything within easy reach and centered around the huge and impressive Cathederal Notre Dame at the centre.

We wandered around the shops and the squares and being Monday it wasn't especially busy. I imagine during peak season and weekends it'll be heaving with tourists.

A few more tanks and memorobilia first

We resisted going to see the tapestry as they would probably only let one of us in with having Louis, and confession time, a dusty tapestry doesn't really do much for me, 😂

The motorhome Aire I'd parked on was ideal for visiting the town, it was also free, but close to a busy road so a bit noisy, we decided not to stay here tonight.

So we headed off to another Aire I'd bookmarked.

It's called Manoir De La Foulerie and is 16th century Manor House set in beautiful Normandy countryside with lakes and gardens surrounding it.
It's a beautiful place with parking and all services for just 10 euro, ideal.

It's in the middle of nowhere, the nearest town seems to be Coutances 7.5 km away.

It's very peaceful though being set in nature, lots of bird calls are the only sounds.

As I say that the gardeners just started up his strimmer ! Ah well, peace shattered for a little while.

. . . and pedelo's

Outdoor performances I think ?

Manoir De La Foulerie Helipad

Why it's a manor house and not a chateau I'm not sure.

There is lots here to do, beautiful grounds, tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool (unheated I suspect) a restaurant in the main house, picnic areas, sun beds and pedelo's on the lake as well as ducks and swans, childrens playgrounds with slides etc, boules pitches.

Even a helipad for landing the chopper !

It really is a little gem of a place.
