Following the recommendation from the tourist information office in Candelo, we set off this morning for the old town of Biella, only about 3 miles away.
It stands high on a hill above what is now the new town.
There is a large free car park at the base, and a finicuar that whisks you up the side of the hill, also free of charge.
The old town is very rustic with lots of charming old buildings and cobbled lanes and alleyways.
It was fairly quiet, a lot of the small shops choosing not to open.
There aren't any large shops, lol.
I suspect out of peak season they only open on weekends.
We found a tiny chapel called Oratorio di San Rocco. It's just one small room with a ladder leading up to a small balcony above the entrance door.
After a couple of hours wandering around, sitting in two parks admiring the views, we decided it was time we enjoyed a morning caffe latte in one of the bars under the ancient arched walkways off Piazzo Biella.
It's a hot day today and energy levels weren't up to going around the newer part of town, so after getting the finicuar down to the carpark we set off back to Candelo and our parking spot amongst the Hibiscus bushes where we spent last night.
A feature of this trip so far has been a series of things breaking or not working 😕
Nothing mission critical, just annoying.
We have an extending step at the door and that's decided it's had enough and won't extend.
My reading glasses broke just picking them up.
So on the way back from Biella we passed a Chinese 'sell everything' kind of shop.
Sure enough they do sell everything you could think of, including reading glasses and folding plastic steps.
So were back in business.
Other things going wrong are .....
Sat nav tablet mount broken - repaired with superglue
Wifi router not working for unknown reasons - old back up mifi working thankfully
Compass stuck on an easterly direction - no idea what the problem there is, worked ok in UK
This afternoon has been spent on a bit of housework and relaxing in the shade with a cold drink.
I've also been researching for a nice campsite on one of the Italian lakes for a few nights so we can be sure of being able to watch the funeral for HM Queen Elizabeth ll 👑 on Monday.
Tea was a disaster, lasagne from the supermarket, I decided to heat it in the Cadac gas bbq, which is supposed to be useable as an oven.
Unfortunatly the plastic trays melted and it was impossible to tell what was pasta sheet and what was burnt plastic.
Lasagne si plastico ! lol
Ciao for now amici !

I couldn't figure out what this was on this building, similar to a sun dial but no pointer arm and numbering wrong ? |
This tower is held together with heavy duty ratchet straps as can be seen below, awaiting renovation maybe |
Who'd put a cow on a balcony ? |
