We had a heck of a thunderstorm after dark in Iseo
last night after a beautiful warm sunny day in Como. However we awoke to another beautiful
sunny morning with the sun glinting on the water and illuminating the opposite
coast of the lake which had been in shadow yesterday evening when we arrived on
Lake Ieso.
After breakfast we set off for Peshiera del Garda
but with it not being very far, I`d looked for something of interest on the way
there and seen a castle on a hill at a town called Brescia, about mid way.
What a great find it was.
We could drive up the hill to the entrance of Bresica Castle from the
town, this pleased Sue no end, there was free parking and free admission which
pleased me no end, a winner all around.
Whats more it was a stunning site with much historical
interest, spectacular views of the surrounding area. A large former grain store
with a giant model railway in it and a very friendly attendant who didn`t speak
much English so I couldn`t establish the railway connection with the Castle.
Not obvious given it`s elevation.
There is also a steam engine in the grounds, but no
explanation of the rail connection except that Brescia is an important
industrial city famous for it`s engineering.
There is also a museum that we couldn`t go in with
Louis.
Beretta firearms are made in the city, much favoured
by the Mafia for their accuracy and reliability.
The Milla Miglia Classic Motor Race left Bresica this week and comes back to town this weekend. This is a classic endurance race from Bresica to Rome and back for cars manufactured before
1957, and first run in 1927, quite a spectacle I would imagine.
I might see if I can
see it enroute somewhere depending on the timings.
After an enjoyable couple of hours wandering around
we set off for Pershiera del Garda with a supermarket shop on the way.
We arrived and checked into Camping Cappuccini, it`s
a very smart site on the banks of the lake and direct access onto the beach and
a walk along the Promenade into the town.
This evening we had a wander round the town to get
our barings and have a beer watching the world go by. It`s a very busy tourist
town, dozens of bars and restaurants and shopping opportunities.
There are a lot of canals in town with fortifications
and ramparts. I think it will take some time to fully explore.
There are also water taxis going to different towns
up the lake so I`m sure we do some exploring.
