A day on the Cote d'Zure

We left in our campsite parkup in Latte this morning and set off to try and find somewhere to park and spend a day on the Cote d'Zure.

I set the sat nav for Nice to see what we could find, knowing it's a place not particularly friendly towards motorhome travellers, and offering few if any dedicated parking places, unlike the vast majority of the rest of France.

Nice is a big city, full of impatient drivers and scooter riders, even on a Sunday morning.

But I made it to the famous Promenade des Anglais.

As I might have expected there was nowhere to park a motorhome, in fact I think the scooters were even having trouble.

So we drove along the promenade for a few miles.

I cut inland to get around the airport and on the other side managed to find parking on the promenade in front of the Hippodrome de la Cote d'Zure.

Free unrestricted parking on the prom, I doubt we could do better than that.

So we spent much of the day taking in the sights and sounds of Nice, paddling in the sea, watching the planes in the distance landing at Nice airport and walking the promenade.

In the late afternoon we decided to take a look at Cannes, again another large city with a bewilderingly complicated road network.

The sat nav again got us down to the promenade where a large cruise liner was moored in the bay.

We were able to stop briefly but didn't longer too long, instead we carried on our journey round the bay of Cannes.

I'd selected a camping car park about 30 minutes inland and set next to Lac du Saint Cassien.

But the Lac is rather lacking, in water.

You can see where the water level is usually by the
water marks on the bridge supports. It must be about 15 metres

Rather more beach than there should be at Lac du Saint Cassien

The water level is down considerably from its usual level, as you can see the marks on these bridge supports.

Our parkup is functional rather than spectacular, but we're on the edge of some stunning Provence countryside so I'm looking forward to seeing some of it in the next few days.
