Where I parked in last night in La Balme de Sillingy is only 35 minutes from the campsite I booked at the southern end of lake Annecy so I had plenty of time, book in time was after 1.00pm, but I needed a supermarket shop on the way there.
Where I parked in last night in La Balme de Sillingy is only 35 minutes from the campsite I booked at the southern end of lake Annecy so I had plenty of time, book in time was after 1.00pm, but I needed a supermarket shop on the way there.
I'd found an Auchan supermarket on my route so set off for there after sorting out the water.
It was huge, I nearly got lost inside the supermarket and could I find anything I wanted ? Nope.
I wanted fresh milk, there were long isle after isle of chiller cabinets with everything imaginable, cooked meats, cheeses of every description, yogurts, fruit flavour milk, every type of creme but milk ? no.
I even found a assistant, she spoke English and she didn't know either, just pointed to all the chiller cabinets.
In the end I gave up and and thought I'd go for UHT. Found some of that but an 8 pack 🤬 8 litres, no thanks !
In the end I noticed a Bio products isle. I think the French name for organic is bio.
Low and behold fresh milk in the bio isle, hurray.
So that was a bit of a time warp in the supermarket and it was lunchtime by the time I escaped.
So I set off for the campsite cursing French supermarkes.
Options for campsite on the lake were quite limited, but Camping Lac Bleu seems ok, the pitches are very cramped, which is a common occurrence in this area I think, but I can just see the lake and there's a nature reserve next door we had a walk around this afternoon.
It's nice to be on a campsite for a change, but honestly, a lot of the free parkups I've enjoyed this week have had better outlooks.
But I guess we're paying for direct access to the lake from the beach.
This is definatly at the quiet end of the lake well away from Anncey town.
The old town is very beautiful though, so I'll try and have a day there when I leave here.
So I'm here for three nights and hope to get my kayak out for a paddle and maybe cycle around the lake.

There was also a suspension bridge over a river that swung like crazy, he wouldn't walk over that either. Well he did eventually, but very cautiously lol.
