Day 37 - La Mailleraye sur Seine to Pourville sur Mer

Tuesday 13th October

Today we've come to a sleepy little seaside village just a couple of miles west of Dieppe.

It's called Pourville sur Mer and will do me nicely for overnight parking close to the port of Dieppe.

Summer is back today with warm sunshine, so the shorts and tee shirt are out again, we've walked the promenade and enjoyed talking in the sea air.

The town has an interesting history, it was the scene of a WWll failed attempted landing in August 1942 by Canadian forces which resulted in many deaths and casualties.

There is a strong Canadian presence in the town with flags flying and a memorial at the church.

It's a popular place for wind surfers too with many taking advantage of the strong wind this afternoon.

There's a barn nearby which was painted by Claude Monet in 1882. I thought I'd take a look, so I tried walking to it but failed, the access had been closed off.

I later found another path from which it can be seen a few hundred metres away, but it was too late then to go and look.

Reading about it, it seems it fell into disrepair and was completely rebuilt. The roof I could see from the road did appear very modern so it may not have been rebuilt as Monet would have seen it.

Monet's barn, I doubt it looked like this in 1882, it looks very modern now judging by the new roof, this was a close as I could get

So an early night tonight and up at 4am for a 6am ferry crossing to Newhaven. 🥱
