Chateauneuf Sur Charente

Wednesday 30th August 2023

The weather app proved to be accurate today and sure enough, soon after Louis morning walk the skies darkened and the rain began.

Well more like drizzle really, but still wet and not welcome.

So we packed up and left Île de Ré, which was a shame because we could have spent a few nights here but in the rain to there's not a great deal to do.

The east looks drier, although pretty much everywhere in France looks unsettled at the moment.

Jarnac was the destination, just east of Cognac in the Brandy producing region.
The attraction here was a free motorhome aire and a nearby vet to get Louis a buster collar and medicated shampoo, as he's still having an overly enthuiastic lick especially at night when we're asleep.

Unfortunately the town of Jarnac is a bit of a building site at the moment with workmen digging up the roads, so we won't be staying here with hammer drills disturbing the peace and rattling our fillings.

The vets turned up trumps though and we got sorted out there.

Option B for the night is Chateauneuf Sur Charente about 20 minutes away.
Another free motorhome aire also with free services.

Along with Cognac and Jarnac it's the third and smallest of the three towns in the heart of the Charente vineyard region.

I gave Louis a bath this afternoon with his itch relief shampoo and he'll have his collar of shame on tonight.

After tea we had a walk down to the Charente river where there is a large recreational park and riverside walks.

We had a rain shower this afternoon but the weather is definitely better than on the coast.

In fact it's pleasantly warm and sunny this evening.
