Bouchemaine on La Maine

Sunday 27th August 2023

It was another chilly morning today in Sainte Suzanne, about 12c overnight, so the heating was put to good use again keeping us toasty.

After getting ourselves sorted out, we set off for Angers about one hour twenty minutes to the south.

We parked on the free car park overlooking La Sarthe river and we had a short walk across the bridge into the town.

The town was a little disappointing really, it has a large cathedral, high up on a hill but apart from the frontage it was mostly covered in scaffolding.

I'd expected a quaint historic part of the town with lots of things happening on a sunny summer Sunday afternoon.

But sadly not, if there is a historic town we didn't find it.
There were some attractive buildings but much of it was quite modern and mostly  un-interesting, to me anyway.

So we didn't linger too long.

Some views around Angers

I'm not sure what this old stone building is, (there was no translation)
but it's being supported by next door

After returning to Ed we set off for tonight's parkup at Bouchemaine, a little further south on La Maine River, close to it's confluence with La Loire where I intend to walk to later.

It was 2017 when we were last on La Loire, but that was further east near Saumur.

That is a beautiful area, I have happy memories of our time there and the chateaux's we visited.

The other attraction of the motorhome aire at Bouchemaine is the shower block which gets rave reviews online so I intend to check that out later after a walk around the village.

Unfortunately Louis has a slight problem, he's been licking excessively to the point where he has created a bald patch.
If you then google the symptoms, mange comes up which is pretty horrible.
But after taking some advice from my online friends on motorhome fun, (a couple of them have veterinary experience) that seems to be unlikely.
It's much more likely to be an environmental irritation.
So I'm seeking some medicated shampoo for him, but being Sunday in France there's no hope whatsoever.

Everything is shut, the French do know how Sundays Should be spent and it's not at the Mall.

He's actually been a little better today but I'll seek out some shampoo tomorrow and if necessary we'll find a vet, but I'm confident that won't be necessary.

Fingers crossed X

Bouchemaine is only a small village but has quite a nice riverside setting
