Tuesday 11th June
This morning we up sticks and left Vienna to head south west, through the region
of Burgenland and into a region called Styria.
The landscape around Vienna is very flat and uninteresting really.
Only when we got closer to Graz
did we see more interesting landscapes of hills and rivers and the odd smaller
mountain.
This area was fought over endlessly in the the middle
ages, invaded by the Turks and Hungarians, keen to reap the bounty from the
fertile soils of this region.
The area is now a big wine producer.
We made our way to the pretty little town of Stainz , just south of Graz .
It's actually a very smart town.
Typically immaculately tidy, no litter anywhere.

We are packed up on the town carpark just a few yards
from the high street.
(GPS 46.89377 15.26823)
It's free of charge, and there is a petrol station
the way out with diesel at 1.19 euro per litre, what more could anyone ask ?
There is a former monastery on the hill above the
town that is now a museum. Unfortunately to closed before I got there.
