I didn't want to go too far being a Bank holiday weekend with all the traffic jam nonsense, but I wanted to get away to take advantage of the fine spring weather we're enjoying.
So I decided on the Anchor Inn at High Offley, near Stafford.
I came across this pub on a walk last year, at that time it was cold, wet and windy but we enjoyed a pint in the quaint surroundings and the adjoining camping field made me promise myself I'd come back.
The pub was built in 1830 on the Shropshire Union Canal about 4 miles from Newport.
The pub has been run by the same family for 100 years and is a rare example of a completely unspoiled industrial revolution pub.
It originally was a welcome rest stop for narrow boaters using the canals as a means to earn a megre living transporting goods between Wolverhampton and Ellesmere Port.
Today it is a quaint pub in beautiful countryside with a camping site right on the canal banks.
So it was a very restful place to spend a couple of days, walking the canal and lanes, with the odd pint of Wadworths 6X.
