Wertheim am Main

This evening, whilst England battle Columbia, of which we can see zilch, Ed is comfortably parked up next to the River Main in Wertheim am Main and overlooking the medieval castle on the hill opposite.

Unfortunately we can`t get a satellite signal and the digital tv aerial isn`t getting anything either. Looking around at the nearby houses, none have aerials so they must all be on cable or satellite I think.

So I`m relying on BBC website and Lauren texting me if there are any goals, none so far.

We left the medieval village of Rothenburg ob der Tauber this morning and drove for about ninty minutes north to Wertheim am Main which sits on the confluence of the Rivers Main and Tauber.

It`s quite a pleasant town to walk around and ordinarily I`d probably rave about it a little bit, but over recent days we`ve seen such fantastic picture postcard towns on the Romantic Route that frankly I think they have raised the bar so high that Wertheim am Main is always going to struggle to make an impression after the lovely towns we have seen.

Our parking for the night is quite impressive though, it`s a Stellplatz on the river (GPS 49.76269 9.5178). Eight euro for the night, no electric, but the fridge is still working. One euro to fill with fresh water tomorrow.
A bit of a bargain given the fine location on the river.

We have spent a swelteringly hot afternoon sitting watching the river cruise ships and cargo ships passing us by, and this evening rowers going up and down.

We overlook the castle and I`m hoping it will be illuminated tonight for some more photos. To be added later with a bit of luck.

Tomorrow we will continue our journey north through the beautiful German countryside I have come to love so much over these last weeks.

Sue wants to go to Cologne, so that`s where we`re headed.

Wouldn`t be my choice but as I refused her Florence and Vienna, with good reasons of course, I don`t mind.
