Heading south

Sunday 25th August 2024

Not too much to report from today, the motorways were very busy as expected, lots of people heading off out for the bank holiday weekend.

Our first stop was lunch at Hughenden Manor, National Trust site, close to High Wycombe and in the Chiltern Hills.

From 1848 to 1881 it was home to Benjamin Disraeli one of the country's most influential and charismatic Prime Ministers.
He was quite a colourful chap apparently and a close friend of Queen Victoria.

We didn't go inside the manor, we just walked around the gardens.
It was extremely busy and there were lots of activities to keep the children occupied.

Next we tackled the M25 ☹️

It was only 60 miles to our planned parking, but the sat nav couldn't seem to decide if it would take us 1 hour 20 minutes or 3 hours.

So I diverted into Beaconsfield services on the M40 and put the kettle on for a brew.

By the time we were refreshed and lubricated with Yorkshire Tea the sat nav had decided on 1 hour 5 minutes.

Plan A and plan B for overnight parking drew a blank due to height barriers being put up.
South East England isn't the most motorhome friendly.

Eventually we settled on the ancient market town of Edenbridge, sitting on the river Eden.

It's an attractive little town with some nice half timbered buildings.

The parking is close to Waitrose, so guess where the first visit tomorrow will be.

Edenbridge, I don't think I've ever seen a pub sign hanging across the
High Street before ?

Some wonky grave stones
