Tarn Hows and Ambleside

Thursday 8th June 2023

The Strictland Arms proved to be a great place to overnight after an enjoyable meal in the restaurant and a pint of the local Cumbria brew to wash it down.

We shared the carpark with one other motorhome and woke to glorious sunshine which was a bit of a novelty as we've got used to not seeing the sun until after lunch for the last couple of weeks.

We set off for Tarn Hows which is a beautiful lake in the hills between Coniston and Hawkshead.

It's quite a well known beauty spot and one I'd wanted to visit for some time.

The roads to it are not really motorhome friendly, the last mile or two are single track with passing places for oncoming. Fortunately we met no vehicles so all good.

There's a National Trust carpark by the lake, so Sue watched TV whilst Louis and I set off to do the circular walk around the Tarn.

It is indeed very beautiful and met all my expectations.

After lunch we set off for nearby Ambleside as we needed to dump the waste water and fill the fresh water tank and I'd found a motofhome service point in the town where I could do this.

Services attended to we had a walk around the picturesque town and took a few photos.

Some views of Ambleside and the famous cottage with the Tarn running below. There's not a lot of water in the Tarn this year though.

Later, Keswick was the selected place for an overnight stop. I'd stayed here when I came to Keswick in February and parked at the lakeside carpark next to the Theatre for the bargain price of 1 pound.
It was a good bit colder then though.

After we had a short walk around the town and me and Louis had a longer walk down to Derwent Water.

Some views of Keswick and Derwent Water.

The weather has been fantastic all day with cloudless skies and warm temperatures to drive away all memories of our chilly winter and spring.
