Millers Dale Peak District

Peak District 28th May 2020

We are now in our tenth week of Corona Virus lockdown measures.

They have been relaxed a little bit in the last couple if weeks but stays away from home are still not allowed.
I decided to bugger it and go anyway.

The measures are principally directed at people needing b and b's guest houses etc, and as they're all closed as they want folks to stay home. Motorhome's of course don't need those facilities.
Well that`s my take on the situation.

All pubs, restaurants and cafes are still closed of course.

I've come up to Millers Dale a small village near Buxton on the River Wye.

It's on the Monsal walking / cycle Trail.

I arrived about 1130 and after lunch I set off to walk to Monsal Head.

It's about 3 miles away and to be honest the sights aren't really worth the effort. It's beautiful countryside of course, but between Millers Dale and Monsal Head, it's mostly cutting embankments and tunnels. It's different at Monsal Head thankfully, lovely views of the river and the meadows below the viaduct.

Overall I think it's a route better cycled.

There are a couple of interesting places nearby, Priestnall Woods and Millers Dale quarry. They might be worth exploring another time.

After tea I took a walk the other way along the trail to the bridge where Lauren did her absail off the bridge a few years ago.

I walked back along the river Wye which was so very beautiful it took my breath away, I had to just sit on a bench and take in the sights and the sounds, the cool of the river valley was very welcome.
Louis took advantage with a paddle in the shallows.

It's been a hot and sunny day today and similar forecast for tomorrow.

Most of the walkers and cyclists have left the car park now and it's very peaceful here, I think it'll be ok here tonight.

Some building work is going on in the old railway sheds, I think it's going to be a visitor centre and cafe.

Let's just hope cafes can once more become part of our culture and can be viable with social distancing requirements.
