A trip to the Lincolnshire fens

Today I headed east to the Lincolnshire fens.

The weather forecast for the next few days is for glorious sunshine, so how could I resist after a long, cold, grey winter ?

First stop was lunch at Belton House, a National Trust property in Grantham.

It's a handsome Georgian house in large parkland grounds.

Sadly the house only opens at weekends at this time of year.

So Louis and I enjoyed a wander around the grounds and gardens.

The gardens were definately worth a look, although obviously a little sparce at this time of year.

There were some red deer in the parklands, although they seemed a bit more shy than the deer at Dunham Park.

After lunch it was on to RAF Coningsby and my overnight parkup at the end of the runway in the viewing area.

Coningsby is now home to a fleet of Typhoon eurofighter jets and there seem to be dozens of them buzzing about.

It is also famously home to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Museum looking after the aircraft such as the spitfires, hurricanes and Lancaster bombers.

There is a tour around the site I'm hoping to get booked onto for tomorrow.

Late in the afternoon I was entertained by the Typhoon jets returning to base and buzzing the airfield with a few laps of the perimeter first which was quite an impressive sight.
